After the holiday I will be taking my new collection and Charleston Rice Beads on the road and doing a trunk show at Ziabird this Friday (Black Friday) and Saturday (Small Business Saturday), located in Wilmington, NC. Ziabird is a beautiful specialty jewelry and apparel shop located out near Wrightsville Beach in Lumina Station. Lynn, the owner has a great eye and is always supportive of new designers. I’ll be in the store from 10AM-4PM Friday and noon-3PM Saturday. You can read more details in the recent edition of Fashion Fix, by local Wilmington style editor Jess James.
Our office will be closed for the Holiday starting this Wednesday the 26th until next Monday, December 1st. I am really going to try to spend some time relaxing at home with my family until Friday without email or social media – tough! It can be so hard to pull yourself away when you have your own business, as there is always “more to do.” We trying to send our first family Christmas card for the first time in years. We had our family photo taken by the uber talented Gray Benko and she got some great outtakes of our daughter Daphne and the new member of the family, Birthday the poodle. Seeing these photos has made me realize how precious and fleeting these years are with her, it sounds cliched but it just flies by. So thank you Gray for the lovely momentos for 2014!
PS – the only guaranteed way I can get Daphne to smile on command for a photo is to tell her to “show her teeth” hence the third photo down – a trick that works if you need one. Hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
The Candy Shop Vintage Holiday Lookbook is now live, chock full of new goodies and great gift ideas:
Like the brand new Charleston Rice Bead Earring, the perfect little everyday stud:
Our new Far East Collection, a capsule collection of Asian inspired jewelry is now available online. The centerpiece of the collection, The Breastplate Necklace (shown below in Midnight Blue) is set with faux opal cabochons made of glass that has flecks of gold foil within them for a beautiful, dimensional look. As soon as I found these stones I couldn’t wait to incorporate them into this collection. They are just magical to look at! The Breastplate necklace was inspired by a vintage runway piece from the 1970’s that I purchased several years back. The original piece has Asian motifs on it, but I felt adding stones was more interesting for a contemporary look and to give each piece a splash of color. They have all been plated in a rich, slightly “antiqued” 14K gold finish for an old world look.
I also did a series of single Crescent Necklaces (above right) set with the same stones that are more discreet for ever day wear. And to compliment the two pieces are three styles of the Lu Tassel Earring (below) each with a silk tassel and featuring the Chinese “Lu” in the center, which means “prosperity.”
I wore the entire set in Amethyst to the launch of this Collection at our HAMPDEN Clothing trunk show just a couple weeks back. I am thrilled with how they turned out. They are especially festive for all the pre-holiday parties cropping up this time of year. See the entire Collection and shop it here.
I was so thrilled to have Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes in Charleston a a couple weeks ago for my trunk show at HAMPDEN CLOTHING. I normally hassle my husband (JAZ) to DJ all my events and he is great but to have a fellow vintage lover AND stylish lady DJ to mix things up was just too perfect. I gave her some Charleston Rice Beads as a souvenir to take back to Dallas and she styled them with this enviable vintage tweed jacket and layers of vintage gold jewelry on her blog last week. This look is simply perfection – trophy wife meets young city girl combined with 80’s supermodel!

Last night I hosted a really great Candy Shop Vintage Trunk Show at HAMPDEN Clothing on King Street in Downtown Charleston. Stacy, the owner of HAMPDEN and I came together to plan the party which included Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes as out guest DJ. She did a FABULOUS job – she even brought records! Everyone loved the music and it created the perfect atmosphere for shopping and socializing.
In part the trunk show was to launch my new “Far East Collection” which will be available online starting next week.
I had a great time showing everyone the designs and even talking a little jewelry making with the girls from Croghan’s, a family owned jewelry store up the street from HAMPDEN.
Our cocktail napkins, a collaboration with Lettermade were a huge hit and will also be available online starting next Monday.
It was so fun seeing both new and old friends, familiar and unfamiliar faces and Squeeze On Site did a great job keeping everyone’s drinks topped up.
Thanks to Jane for such great music, to Stacy and HAMPDEN for having me and to Clay Austin, our photographer who captured the evening so nicely.
